What I like about Italy is how tasteful everything is. Even a bookstore in a small Tuscan gem of a city called Lucca. I accidentally found this store on my cobblestoned way from the Duomo di Lucca to Puccini’s museum (both deserve an article of their own). What I loved about Mondadori is that it is actually an old palazzo of some kind transformed into a modern bookstore! The ceiling is arched, with classical marble columns supporting it. The selection of books is not bad, with a special accent on art, music and film industry (it is Italy, baby). As in many Tuscan bookshops, there is a decent English language section with Elizabeth Gilbert, Giorgio Vasari, Tim Parks, Frances Mayes, Irving Stone and other writers the Italians believe you would be interested in while enjoying their amazing land. Open daily from 9 am to midnight!
