Beatrixpark, Amsterdam

Tourists are no-goers here: this natural nook is located way off the beaten path. A quiet local park, Beatrixpark was created in 1936-1938 by Jakoba Mulder, a leading Dutch landscape architect, who was also working on the creation of the Amsterdamse Bos.

Beatrixpark is my all-time favourite, and, when living in Amsterdam, I never missed a chance to sneak away to its cosy lakes and meadows with a book under my arm. The park is especially beautiful in autumn, when it is a tribute to romance and lyricism – auburn shades, long-haired willows, bright spills of crimson leaves by the fragile trunks… And ducks, and geese, and … dogs!

In spring, the park is a blooming garden, modest but pretty. In summer, it is a great getaway from the heat (which is a rare thing in Amsterdam, I must unfortunately admit) and a perfect venue for picnics.

P.S. Lots of sturdy trees by the waterside to lean on while enjoying a book:)
